I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. - Thomas Jefferson
The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite.

Profanity?

My daughter and I were having a conversation related to her school work.  It started with the word "ass" (this is a type of donkey); and here in-lies the heart of the matter - perversion.

Since word do mean something let's start with the definition of profanity.  Profanity: noun, the quality of being profane (I hate, err - dislike these types of definition where the word is defined with the word; anyway...), irreverence.  Definition of profane?  Profane: verb, characterized by irreverence or contempt for God or sacred principles or things; irreligious.

The other forms of definitions all center around holy or religious theme except number 5 - "common or vulgar".

As I searched for the definition of this word I found myself asking, "Is "pro" a prefix?  To find out I sought the definition to the word "fane".  Fane: noun, a temple.  Well, this is curious.  If "pro" is a prefix, I already know it means to be in favor of something.

So, I look up "pro-".  In addition to the common understanding of this prefix it also is used to indicate a substitution, like proconsul.

AHA!  A substitution for...the original definition of course.

Back in the day (whenever that would have been) one could say the word "ass" and not give a second thought to what is being referenced. Over the course of time the meaning gets perverted.  Definition?  Of course.

Perversion: (we may as well just go to the word "pervert")
Pervert: verb, to lead astray morally (I think most of us expected that one), to turn away from the right course, to lead into mental error of false judgment (Hmm, a spiritual connotation? Remember, satan is the father of lies), to turn to an improper use; misapply.

So, you have to ask yourself one question.  Do you want to be known as a pervert-er?  Well do ya', punk?
